چکیده

This study simulated the water scarcity footprint (WSF) of cocoa irrigation in municipalities considered suitable for growing state Bahia, according to agro climatic zoning. Irrigation demand was calculated using model proposed by FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization United Nations). Subsequently, impact on product crop characterization factors regionalized AWARE method Brazil. The WSF Bahia ranged between 0.28 646.5 m³ per kilo produced. From defined scale, 417 cocoa, 59% have a 'low' footprint, 18% 'medium', 10% 'high', 12% 'very high' footprint. Based these results, it is suggested that areas with lower are priority expansion avoid possible compromise other essential demands municipalities. In addition, should waste, especially regions high levels scarcity. results show inclusion agroclimatic zoning can contribute process identifying potential critical new crops others.

This study quantifies and maps the water footprint (WF) of humanity at a high spatial resolution. It reports on consumptive use of rainwater (green WF) and ground and surface water (blue WF) and volumes of water polluted (gray WF). Water footprints are estimated per nation from both a production and consumption perspective. International virtual water flows are estimated based on trade in agric...

A global water scarcity assessment under Shared Socio-economic Pathways – Part 2: Water availability and scarcity

A global water scarcity assessment for the 21st century was conducted under the latest socio-economic scenario for global change studies, namely Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs). SSPs depict five global situations with substantially different socio-economic conditions. In the accompanying paper, a water use scenario compatible with the SSPs was developed. This scenario considers not only qu...
